Welcome to LUMANA

Liaquat University Medical Association of North America (LUMANA) is the premier organization representing the alumni of Liaquat University in North America. Our mission is to build a strong community of medical professionals who mentor students, foster collaboration, and enhance the professional image of our alumni.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to another inspiring year with LUMANA (Liaquat University Medical Association of North America)! I am deeply honored and privileged to serve as your President.

At LUMANA, we are deeply committed to supporting aspiring medical professionals. Through our medical initiatives, we strive to provide essential healthcare services and support to those in need. Our philanthropic efforts are geared towards uplifting the less fortunate and creating a positive impact in the lives of many. Additionally, our cultural programs aim to preserve and celebrate our rich heritage, fostering a sense of unity and pride among our members.

This year, we have an exciting array of projects and events lined up that promise to make a meaningful difference. From educational seminars to fundraising drives and cultural festivals, there is something for everyone to contribute to and benefit from. Your active participation and support are crucial to the success of these endeavors.

In the educational domain, we are designing a comprehensive program that will start in the initial years of medical school training for students at LUMHS (Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences) to prepare them for the US Graduate Medical Education system. Our plans will encompass a comprehensive mentorship program for medical students during their 2nd and 3rd years of training. We will offer electives and clinical rotations in the US, provide merit-based loans and scholarships to deserving candidates, engage students in Quality Improvement (QI) projects, and prepare them for the ERAS residency application and interview process.

Our Social Welfare Committee is working on two major projects for 2025: to install multiple water filtration and water testing plants. This initiative was started by our alumni and has been maintained since its inception, providing clean water to countless individuals in remote rural areas of Pakistan.

Our Membership Committee will work diligently on increasing our alumni membership. As your president, I am reaching out to emphasize the importance of our membership drive and to ask for your invaluable support in expanding our community. Our strength lies in our numbers, and by growing our membership, we can amplify our impact and better serve the medical, philanthropic, and cultural needs of our community. I encourage each of you to reach out to your friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in the US who graduated from LUMHS and invite them to join LUMANA.

Our Publication Committee will ensure the regular and timely dissemination of information to all members. By leveraging various communication channels, we aim to keep you informed about our ongoing initiatives, upcoming events, and key developments within our organization.

Our annual retreat committee is planning a memorable annual LUMANA retreat, that will offer a wonderful opportunity for us to reconnect, network, and celebrate our shared experiences and achievements. It is an event eagerly anticipated by many, and we are committed to making it an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Fareha Kazi for a successful term as LUMANA president in 2024. We had a productive combined alumni retreat with DOGANA and JSMUAANA in Dallas, and a memorable day at our alma mater during the APPNA winter meeting, co-chaired by Dr. Siddique Khurram. Under Dr. Kazi’s leadership, LUMANA hosted several educational webinars and mentorship sessions for our young physicians and provided educational loans to deserving candidates. She also took the initiative to launch LUMANA’s first-ever website.

In conclusion, I am confident that, together, we will continue to support and advance our alma mater’s growth. Thank you for being an integral part of LUMANA’s vision. Your support and involvement are the driving forces behind our mission to build a legacy of excellence and service.

I am open to and enthusiastic about suggestions for improvement, so feel free to contact me with any new ideas, comments, or questions. You can reach me anytime at ashraf.nauman@gmail.com.

With gratitude and hope,

Nauman Ashraf, MD
